Saved From What?

As a church goer all of my life I was exposed to the word "saved" at an early age. Back in the day, the word "saved" meant --"saved" or delivered from an eternity separated from God. In other words, I did not have to go to Hell (place of eternal torment)...I was "saved" from burning forever and ever. Thankfully, as a mature adult and a maturing child of God, I now know that there has never, ever been an eternal torture chamber awaiting people who are "unsaved." But, you and I were still saved. Saved from ourselves though and not "saved" from a wrathful God.
The book of Titus, chapter 3 reminds us to be obedient and do what is good. Titus chapter 3 goes on to state that at one time we were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all the wrong things in life. We hated and were hated BUT when the love of God appeared He saved us...from ourselves. He saved us from having only the option of being hateful, envious, malicious, etc. Now we can perform good works or God works as I like to say. We can be kind, obedient, peaceful, considerate. We have been saved...all of us. He did not exclude anyone. It was not because of our righteousness but because of His mercy. His mercy extended/extends to all of humanity. Thank Him for saving you from yourself.
